Basement Jaxx DJ Set

I was so excited to see Basement Jaxx because I absolutely love all of their music. I first started listening to them when I discovered Rooty, about a year after it was released. I then had the pleasure of backtracking to Remedy and the Atlantic Jaxx Compilation as well as living through the release of Kish Kash, Crazy Itch Radio, and now Scars (so excited for Zephyr!!!). Scars is really good - even Daniel likes it!

Sadly Daniel was a little sick for the concert, but he still came along because he loves me so <3 <3 The people in the lineup were friendly and as uber-excited as me to get in there and see the Jaxx live! Doors were at 10 and there was some DJ warming up the dance-floor. He was pumping some alright tribal house beats. When the Jaxx took stage just after midnight the dance-floor was jam-packed and they started things off with Twerk! So awesome! I was so happy!

Then instead of playing anything of theirs that was recognizable, they proceeded to play some pretty generic beats. This was a big letdown. Don't get me wrong, I am such a Basement Jaxx fanboy. I love all their works, but I didn't realize that a DJ set meant that they wouldn't be playing the majority of Scars. I mean, look at the poster, look at the scars logo - compared to what they were playing it didn't add up. They did manage to mix in Raindrops and Feelings Gone and one song off of Remedy, but 4 Jaxx songs in an hour and a half is not acceptable to keep this fanboy satisfied.

I guess I was expecting to hear some Scars inspired beats, or even some hooks or beats from their older stuff. You know, enough to keep the dance-floor aflame... Two last things:

1. If you are a fellow fanboy/fangirl rest assured that you did not miss a good show.
2. Never confuse DJ Set with Concert because apparently there is no overlap between the two.

Haloween

This Halloween fell on a Saturday, so it was a perfect night to go out and party! Luckily my sister was hosting a shindig at her place. The festivities were to start at nine, so we took our time getting downtown, stopping off at square one to pick up some booze (the LCBO there is open 'till 9) and some foodage (Panera is pretty good all around). I committed to drinking Absolute Ruby Red vodka for the evening while Daniel got Smirnoff Vanilla.

We got there at 8:45 but some people were already there. Christine invited her friend Marie who she used to work with and she arrived at 8:30 with three of her friends... and nothing else... It was clearly a BYOB event. So Christine made the two girls a drink and suggested we don't share with them. Luckily they didn't stay for too long. Right before they left all the cool kids - Christike, Danson, Matfie and Rolini did Porn star shots (sour puss with blue cacao) courtesy of Daniel so I think that they got the hint...

Then once they left we did shots of Jager courtesy of moi :) For the same price of three Mississauga Jagers (that's two Toronto Jagers) you can get a little bottle that supplies rounds of shots! Awesome! So yeah the eight of us got plastered except for Shalini who was driving and we had a wicked awesome time.

I was dressed up as Michelangelo - TMNT 4 Life! and Daniel as a roman emperor. Oh yeah, Christines neighbour Ronit not to be confused as Rohit came over dressed as a piece of sheet! lol She was fun too :)Alfie had an alergic reaction to Cooper and needed to go get some meds, but we all had a blast

Thanks Cristine!
